Chlamydia Screening Programme

www.haveyougotit.nhs.uk

Chlamydia:

  • Is the most common sexually transmitted infection
  • You may not know you have it
  • Affects men and women
  • Left untreated, it may lead to infertility
  • Is easily treated with antibiotics
  • There is now a free Screening Programme dedicated to testing and treating under 25 year olds for Chlamydia

How you get Chlamydia:

  • By having vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who already has it
  • Sharing sex toys
  • Its possible that it can be transferred to the eyes
  • A pregnant woman can pass the infection to her baby

The test:

  • Is a simple urine or self-taken swab test
  • Any information you give will be kept in total confidence

And after the test…

  • You will be contacted confidentially by the method you choose – text, post or phone

If you have Chlamydia:

  • You will be treated with a free course of antibiotics
  • Your partner can also be treated to avoid re-infection
  • You will receive help to contact any previous partners so that they can get a free test and treatment too.
